Susquehanna Township-based Capital BlueCross has purchased an adjacent 50-acre tract at Elmerton Avenue and Martina Drive for $5.4 million.

The land deal, which closed in the fall, was done for “any future expansion we may consider,” spokesman Joe Butera said.

There are no pending projects, he said.

“We were finally able to structure a deal after many, many years of showing interest,” Butera said.

Bill Rothman, founder of Lemoyne-based RSR Realtors brokered the deal for Capital BlueCross, which has about 1,000 employees working at its headquarters at 2500 Elmerton Ave.

“It’s always a good investment to buy the property next to you,” Rothman said. “Someday you may need it. And it makes your property more valuable.”
