The company could make a decision by the end of March on whether it will close the distribution center in Springettsbury Township and move its distribution to another East Coast center, Caterpillar spokesman Jim Dugan said.

About 250 people work at the hub at 600 Memory Lane, he said. Caterpillar first notified employees there about the logistics review in 2012, he said.

If Caterpillar chooses to relocate its dealer stock and emergency parts orders to another location, the closing of the York County site could happen in 2014. Dugan did not identify what facilities could be the recipients of the operations.

Caterpillar formerly had manufacturing operations at the York County site until the factory closed in the 1990s. Today the site is home to the York Business Center.

Illinois-based Caterpillar trades its stock on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol CAT.
