Both Susquehanna Township-based Capital BlueCross and Pittsburgh-based Highmark Inc. now offer access to information about costs for common procedures and provider quality. Members can also submit their own reviews of providers, and the tools are available online and on mobile devices.
“Consumers are looking at health care and their choices with new eyes, so we need to keep up with that demand for information,” said Brooke Nordai, Capital BlueCross’s director of product development.
“We want to ensure that members are engaged throughout the process and understand how they, too, can play a role in the quality and cost of their care,” said Steven Nelson, Highmark senior vice president of strategy, product and marketing.
