“We can make it better for the user, and we can make it better for the publisher,” Fry said this morning about the acquisition that was finalized Feb. 1. He declined to release financial details of the acquisition, but the Orange County Register reported the deal was in the tens of millions of dollars.
Fry acquired BowTie as a partner in I-5 Publishing along with Mark Harris, co-founder of New Jersey-based National Publisher Services. The new owners plan to keep most of BowTie’s more than 150 employees and continue publishing its various magazines, Fry said. However, they also will improve the use of technology to give readers a better experience, he said.
BowTie’s assets are not part of Fry Communications, but the Mechanicsburg-based company is the printer for BowTie’s magazines and will continue in that role, Fry said.
David and father Henry Fry own a half stake in National Publisher Services. It and Fry Communications have partnered before on business deals, including the acquisition of digital media distribution company Thumb Media Group.
