The Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority has set a March 1 deadline for proposals for a 22-acre tract it wants developed near Harrisburg International Airport.
A mandatory presubmittal meeting for developers was held today at SARAA's HIA office in Lower Swatara Township.
Authority officials said the property — known as North 29 Lot — will continue to be owned by SARAA. The authority is looking for a developer or end users to lease the property.
A Sheetz is slated to occupy a 2.8-acre corner lot, said Larry Lawyer, vice president of Cumberland County-based Delta Development Group Inc., the firm working with the authority.
That project could be approved this month by the township and break ground by the summer, he said. No other development proposals have been submitted.
The authority conducted a use study and found the best mix for the tract to meet the needs of the area would be a hotel with 70 to 100 rooms, a bank, retail shopping, an Outback-style restaurant and a fast-food establishment with drive-thru.
Authority officials said the intention is to keep the tract together and not subdivide for individual lots.
A traffic study already has been completed and approved by the state Department of Transportation, Lawyer said. No improvements would be required of a prospective developer.
Once proposals are submitted, developer selection is expected by March 29, according to the request for qualifications.
