Next Generation includes technology improvements, increased coordination with other state partners, and other modernization efforts to improve PennDOT's and the government's overall efficiency.
Streamlining was part of 2011 recommendations from the governor's Transportation Funding Advisory Commission to better fund the state's road, bridge and mass transit needs. The Corbett administration worked immediately on streamlining because many of the departmental changes don't require legislative approval.
"Pennsylvania has a well-established need for additional transportation funding; this is critical to preserve our economy and our quality of life," Corbett said in a statement. "As we move forward to establish new revenues, it is critical that PennDOT is able to maximize every dollar possible."
