The state Department of Community and Economic Development has approved eight projects, including two in the midstate, for grants from the Municipal Assistance Program, according to a news release.

Support is available for shared services, community planning and flood plain management.

Penn Township and Hanover in York County were awarded a $35,000 grant to help pay for the joint fire chief position created in 2011 to serve the municipalities.

The York Area Regional Police Department, which serves multiple jurisdictions south and east of York, was awarded a $7,500 grant for implementing operating efficiencies, the release stated.
