Meanwhile, Rite Aid Corp. recorded a sales decrease for the month, the company said.

Comparable-store sales for Bon-Ton last month were 3.7 percent higher than October 2011, and total sales rose by the same percentage to more than $199 million, the release stated.

Year-to-date sales on a comparable-store basis were up 0.3 percent, and total sales were up 0.2 percent to more than $1.9 billion, according to the release.

In the year-ago month, Bon-Ton had reported a sales decline of more than 10 percent.

Shares of the department store business, with corporate offices in York County and Milwaukee, are traded on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol BONT.

Cumberland County-based drugstore chain Rite Aid recorded a 1.1 percent decrease in same-store sales for October compared with the comparable period last year, according to a news release.

Total drugstore sales for the period were down 1.8 percent to more than $1.9 billion, the release stated.

Shares of Rite Aid are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol RAD.
