HU announced Tuesday that it has commitments from 151 freshmen, plus 15 undergraduate transfer students and 12 new graduate students. Last year, its freshman class numbered 91.
Recruitment within 50 miles of Harrisburg is down 18 percent year over year, the university said, but recruitment in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., is up 43 percent.
HU has worked with Cumberland County developer Dan Deitchman, president of Brickbox Development Ltd., on Market View Place, its second student-housing project. The facility is located at 301 Market St., Harrisburg, which formerly housed the Susquehanna Art Museum and also was known as the Kunkel Building.
Furniture will be delivered to Market View Place on Aug. 16, and HU said it expects 84 students to move in beginning Aug. 23. In all, HU expects to have 184 students in its two housing facilities. With each student bringing disposable income, the university said, that represents hundreds of thousands of dollars for the downtown.
