The state itself will save $1 million per year from switching vendors for the service, PennDOT said.
The largest savings come from reducing the current program management fee paid by station owners for each initial emission test from $2.40 to $1.47, according to a PennDOT news release.
PennDOT will "actively encourage" the stations to pass savings along to consumers, according to the news release.
Parsons has been contracted to oversee the stations in the 25 counties where emissions testing is required, the release stated.
