“We estimate 1 in 10 Pennsylvanians has unclaimed property,” Treasurer Rob McCord said in a statement.
Through ads, direct outreach and an online database, the bureau works to restore assets to their rightful owners.
In 2011-12, the Treasury’s Bureau of Unclaimed Property took custody of $234.6 million in unclaimed property abandoned at banks, businesses and other organizations throughout the commonwealth. The bureau’s unclaimed assets total $1.9 billion.
