Swatara Township-based K&W Engineers and Consultants has been hired to do the design for planned renovations at the Holy Spirit Health System campus in East Pennsboro Township, the firm said.

Holy Spirit announced last month it will renovate a former Weis Markets building into a data processing center. The 27,000-square-foot building is adjacent to the campus on 21st Street. Holy Spirit has owned it since 2003.

The total cost of the extensive renovations is estimated at more than $10 million, according to Holy Spirit. The data center should be completed by the end of the year.

The new center will be equipped to better handle integrated electronic medical records, streamline workflow and maintain security, said Lori Moran, a Holy Spirit spokeswoman. At full capacity, it is expected to employ an additional 62 permanent full-time workers. Additionally, the renovation is expected to create 25 temporary jobs.

K&W specializes in civil engineering services to the health care, senior living and educational markets, as well as residential, municipal and other commercial projects.
