House Bill 11 passed the House Liquor Control Committee in December, as amended, as a proposal to allow privatized wholesale and retail wine sales in Pennsylvania but keep liquor sales in the hands of the state system.

The legislation also has contained some proposed changes to how businesses can sell beer in the commonwealth based on packaging size.

The bill, first rolled out last summer by state House Majority Leader Mike Turzai, R-Allegheny County, was up last week for second consideration.

During this phase of the process, legislation is subject to amendment ahead of further consideration prior to final passage, according to House rules.

Lawmakers are expected to continue debate this week on “250-plus” amendments to the privatization measure, according to a statement from Turzai’s office.
