Five midstate contractors made the annual Top 400 Contractors list published by Engineering News-Record, or ENR, a magazine owned by New York City-based McGraw-Hill Cos.

The list ranks the top firms in the country based on revenue for services.

Topping the list of local firms was York Township-based Kinsley Construction Inc., which came in at No. 144 on the ENR list with $395 million in 2011 revenue.

Kinsley was No. 129 last year, according to ENR.

Harrisburg-based Quandel Enterprises moved up to No. 245 from No. 291 last year with $224.5 million in revenue.

Butz Enterprises Inc., the Allentown-based parent company of Alexander Building Construction Co., which has offices in Harrisburg and State College, came in at No. 273 with $199.5 million in 2011 revenue. That ranking was up from No. 369 last year.

Lancaster-based Wohlsen Construction Co. was No. 280 with $194.7 million. The firm did not make last year's list.

Rounding out the midstate companies on the list was Manchester Township-based Wagman Cos. Inc., which posted 2011 revenue of $130 million. That was good enough for No. 368 on this year's list, down from No. 300 last year.
