Lancaster has been chosen to host the 2011 and 2012 U.S. Youth Soccer Region I Championships, which is part of the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship Series.

The event is expected to generate $12 million in economic impact in 2011, and $15 million in economic impact in 2012, according to the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association.

The tournament will attract 272 boys’ and girls’ teams from 15 states, which will translate into more than 5,000 players and an estimated 10,000 spectators. The first year of the event is scheduled for June 30 through July 4, 2011.
